One of my favorite drinks at Starbucks is their Caramel Frappuccino Recipe. I could literally have two a day and never get tired of them.
So I figured out how to make one at home and it’s so similar–but also, in many ways, better. Let’s get started.
When I decided to embark on the effort of figuring out how to make a Caramel Frappuccino, I didn’t realize how simple it would really be.
I mean, I watch the baristas at Starbucks, sure. And I know that it takes them less than 5 minutes to whip-up one of my favorite frozen drinks, but I had no idea I could recreate that at home…I mean, surely there’s some magic there?
Nope.
No magic–just awesomely tasty and super few ingredients–I had no idea.
What is a Caramel Frappuccino?
For those of you who aren’t quite sure what a caramel frappuccino is, Starbucks describes it as “caramel syrup meets coffee, milk and ice…while whipped cream and buttery caramel sauce layer the love on top.”
Sounds devilish, right? Exactly.
It’s basically liquid dessert which is why I decided to own that in my version and omit the coffee altogether. Trust me, you don’t want to start your day out with a sugar rush like this!
Instead, enjoy it in place of dessert. For most of us, that’s going to be later in the day. Don’t worry — if you really want the caffeinated version, I’ll share my tip on how to work the coffee back in.
What You Need
Because, seriously, this is all I used to make this awesome caramel flavored frappuccino:
- 4 cups ice
- 4 tablespoons caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- 2 cups milk or cream
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons caramel sauce for garnish
Yeah, and the execution? Just as simple.
How to Make a Caramel Frappuccino
Step 1
Combine milk, sugar, vanilla bean paste and caramel sauce. Stir to combine.
Step 2
Add caramel milk mixture to ice.
Step 3
Blend. Now, this sounds simple enough, but you want to blend really well. I used my trusty immersion blender. Cheap little workhorse makes perfectly crushed ice for frappuccinos every time.
Step 4
Rim glass with caramel sauce.
Step 5
Pour blended mixture into glass. No tricks here, just get ready.
Step 6
Kick your feet back and enjoy!
For those of you who want the caffeine kick on top of the sugar rush, substitute one cup of strong coffee for one of the cups of milk. Everything else is the same.
