Talking via video chat is old hat. Sure, it’s super important to me that I see loved ones’ faces as I’m hunkered down inside during this pandemic, but c’mon—video chatting got stale quick. Just talking, while helpful, isn’t the only way I wanted to spend my time connecting with my friends and far-off family. I started thinking about how to make video chatting more fun, and tried these couple activities that do a really good job of keeping me sane. Hopefully, these can inspire you to mix your chats up too.

Have a Painting Party

If you had plans for a paint and sip before all this, don’t put them on hold. Host a paint and sip party virtually. I didn’t realize how much I wanted to just be present with my loved ones until I did this. Hosting our own paint and sip, personal beverages in hand, helped with that. To do this, get a canvas, some paints, and a brush, and you’re set. Better yet, though, you can make your own paints before you put brush to canvas. After shipping in some pigment, consider one of several ways to make your own paints so that you can do this together virtually with your loved ones. That way, you get to enjoy creating your custom paints and your beautiful paintings.

Play a Game Together

Another way to make video chatting more fun is to play a game with those you video chat. This can take a plethora of forms. You can give over your husband to playing his hours-long games of Risk with his friends. Everyone can download a games-centered video chatting app. Or, you all can just make up a game together. While nothing truly gets close to the feeling of gathering around a table for game time, I was surprised by how fun it was to play a party game over video chat.

Cook a Family Staple

This one may be my favorite. I feel closest to my family when we’re all in the kitchen, bumping hips and side-by-side as we create a delicious meal together. That’s something I dearly miss, but all of us cooking the same dish from our respective homes was so much fun. If you want to, you can even teach each other a new dish. This way, you change up what you eat and make a lasting memory with your family (or friends) in the process.

Gather ‘Round for Story Time

I may have lied—telling stories over video chat may actually be my favorite video chatting activity, especially if you have kids. For kids, what’s in front of them matters a lot and, sadly, their aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents aren’t tangibly present right now. Arranging a dedicated story time gives grandparents or other important adults a precious way to be present and active in your kids’ lives.

Holy fun amzing canvas painting party was a huge hit !!! My daughter is 6 and this hear the theme I picked was by far my favorite. “Ca’Rin’s Canvas.

Every year I pick something neat and different and truly enjoy doing it ! All

Follow along for all the amazing details and pictures.

We have a huge neat partying hosting place in the back 4 decks 2 arbor’s and a big playground @ the top. This is the 1st area. Where I placed all my spray painted paint cans I bought for $1 a price @ Sherwin Williams. It made the party !! Along with the tulle fabric poring out like paint.

The cakes rocked !!! Where I live I have an amazing lady that I use no matter what she never ever disappoints.

I am a sucker for party’s that match through out. These candy coled drinks added some perfect detail.

I made white dipped chocolate Marshmallows with rainbow  sprinkles. And added fun dip to the paint splatter cupcake cups i made it was perfect !!!

My husband cut me a huge wood paint pallet and I added the colors and wording loved this placed on a easel.

Part of one candy table was sooooo cute the paint pallet suckers were very good and I bought those @ orential trading.

Cup cakes on paint palletts with all the trimmings so the girls could decorate like they wanted to. Got all that at Walmart for pretty cheap.

Two wooden paint brush banners that I pained to match the party these were definitely a highlight and bought so cheap off eBay.

The party favors were so cute !!! I had paint samples and confettii on top of the table cloth. Paint splatter puzzles and lip gloss (orential trading).

Bubbles and mini clear paint cans with gumballs.

And such cute cute cute paint pallets necklaces I made charms from etsy also.

Soooo cute paint brush rice crispy treats !!!

Plastic aprons for each child to protect from paint.

The pic above is the area I had set up for them to paint large size canvas and mini ones also !!! They did so cute on them !!!

The paint splatter converse went perfect with her outfit !!!

Ca’Rin’s Canvas !!!

Honestly I never thought I would enjoy planning my son’s birthday parties.

Sounds a little mean right ? Well y’all know how much I love planning and having parties !! But when it comes to buy stuff I always underestimate myself… Well I can & did have an amazing boy party… Proof is in the pictures y’all !

So glad my son’s party was up to par comparing against all the parties I’ve had for my daughter.

Details:
°• I made the back drop with cheap paper fans and hot glued them on to a very thin piece of paneling. And added the letter balloons on fishing string.
•° Glued tiny lizards on cheap tiny clay pots and placed gummy worms inside.
°• Dressed up the glass bottles drinks by also glued the lizards on them. They came off easy & the kids kept them.
•° On the main table I had two different kids of the HARBIO gummy frog’s.
°• The very real looking worms that I put all around the smash cake were amazing and tasted like bubble gum. (Oriental Trading)
°• I also made the real looking dirt cake dessert and put in little small plastic pots and placed gummy worms on top.
•° Blue Jello in clear cups with a frog gummy on top. The perfect ponds !
°• The big cake obviously was so amazing I have a local lady that does all my cakes.
•° Party favors were bug nets and bug catchers to put bugs and worms in & reptile tattoos.
°• A local reptile store bright the reptiles to the party they were really good with the kids.
•° The chocolate covered pretzels were “ants on a log”.
°• I also used a old window, piece of lattice and mini chalk boards for a bit more decor.

I always over-plan and over-spend. So this year when i started planning for my daughters 5th birthday i made a decision that i would figure out how to go the cheaper route and still be considered the “party of the year”. And i succeeded !!

First things first i made my mind up on the theme we have done tons of themes so i had to think a little bit. Year #1 we did princess with full candy bar. Year #2 I had the zoo come to our house they brought the Australian package kangaroos etc… Year #3 we did carnival then Year #4 Horses and Hairbows which brings us to this Year #5 Spa Day !!

My daughter is obsessed with everything prissy. She dpends hours going thur my fashion magazines circling what she likes and ripping out all perfume samples to keep.

So getting totally pampered this year fit perfectly.

When i do a themed party i personally like to have a set color palette as well in this case gold, black and white.

Everything i list was bought at My local Dollar Tree, Party City, Oriental Trading or off Ebay.

Hair
Nails

The hair station had everything you needed for “crazy hair” pipe cleaners, spray glitter and color, feather extensions, & pony tail holders.

My nail station was the most embellished. I had tons of neat things to pick from. Nail art pens, stickers, jewels, pearls and very cute 3D nail pieces. It looked like a fully stocked nail bar.

The makeup station was easy what little girls dont like red lipstick and 1980’s bright eyeshadow. I simply picked up tons of body glitter and bright color choices.

My foot pedicure station was a big hit i bought small plastic foot containers then cut out “Spa Ca’Rin” on my cameo to give them a personalized look. I added warm water and peppermint foot soak for each girl.

And last the most sassy station of all was the face station. I got the cucumber face masks and cut fresh cucumbers. And each girl got a white hand mirror that i added rinstones to. All the giggling this station provided was well worth it.

I also bought cute spa photo props and set up a little area for that.

The rustic window was made by me from wrapping paper and gift bags from Target. And the enjoy today sign was made using paint and my cameo.

My favorite party of the party was everything matchy matchy you will see from photos.

Food fare was light and simple your basic spa like foods such as ham and cheese roll ups. Fruit dip with chips, sausage balls, grapes and cheese.  Matching zebra cakes, suckers, gumballs and swiss rolls. The cake and cupcakes were amazing! And tied it all together a local lady made those for me.

We did all this and with a budget yall !!! Now it’s your turn to have a spa day for your daughter !!!

I love themed partys im smitten on all things matchy matchy. Last year when searching for inspration for my daughters 4th birthday i came across a horse party and a bow party and she loves both horses and hairbows a bombastic amount.

That year she was going through a phase where she also worshiped her pony. So i combined the two and birthed a Horses & Hairbows party.

All pictures will be at bottom of post i like to see to be inspired.

Activities :

Pony rides
Corn hole

For the hairbow making station i simply bought a large pack of pony tail holders and provided a huge amount of differnt kinds of ribbon to be tied on to holder and the finished product resulted in a cute bow that the guest could take home.

I have a metal horse shoe tree i bought from LTD that i put the shabby hairbows on they had alligator clips on them and the guest also got to take one home.

The glass bottle drinks were just NEHI i bought at walmart and hot glued mini hats on when it was time to drink they came off easily and then hot glued a doily around it and tied a burlap ribbon.

I also made a ribbon award board see picture. I made this all with a glue gun and cute cupcake liners bought off ebay. Then attached ribbons and i also placed different objects in the middle to dress it up like gems, stones, buttons etc…

My large H is what inspired my Horses and hairbows sign i bought that large H at a yardsale it was only Styrofoam and fake flowers pressed in. The other my husband made for me from old boards and a lead rope.

The polka dot favor bags had a pony sticker on top that read thanks for coming love Ca’Rin inside was a skinny ribbon necklace with a horse charm attached.

The pony painting was done by my inlaws and was 100% perfect for the party i placed it behind the cake table and also used as a photo prop.

The cake was amazing and tied my theam togther it was made by a local lady in my tiny town in Georgia.

What you cant see as good in pictures is i also decorated with rattan windows, boots and saddles through out the party.
