Y’all, being stuck at home is getting to me. I woke up the other day and realized I hadn’t left my house in four days—not even for a walk! It’s so important to keep our minds busy and engaged, even without the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life. Shelter-in-place orders are in effect throughout most of the country and there are limited places to go even when you want to leave your house. I’d be lying if I told y’all I wasn’t guilty of sitting in front of the TV for multiple days in a row. I can feel my brain slowly crying for help, desperate for something challenging or entertaining. Luckily, I recently got really into DIY projects. Being home so much got me thinking about everything I’d like to change about my house, but my champagne taste and beer budget doesn’t quite allow me to buy all new stuff. Check out my favorite fun DIY projects to do while stuck at home for some inspiration.
Refinishing a table
I love my kitchen table, but the kids wreak havoc on just about everything I own, and this table was no exception. There were burn marks from hot plates being set down on it, water spots, and even a little bit of permanent marker. I decided that, rather than shell out for a new one, I’d refinish it. Refinishing wood furniture is easier than you think—just be sure to watch out for the most common mistakes, such as not stripping the wood correctly. Your table or other wood furniture can look brand new with just a day or two of work.
Sewing something new
Sewing is one way to spend time doing something that’s productive, crafty, and fun. You can make just about anything you may need from just a little bit of fabric, a sewing machine, and determination. You can sew up a new pair of curtains for a window in your home or even make covers for your throw pillows to spruce up your home décor. There is truly no end to what fun and adorable home items you can craft by sewing. I personally really enjoy making throw blankets to match different rooms in my house. They’re cozy, fun to make, and add a touch of freshness to my house.
Paint something
Choose something and paint it a new color. You can paint your kitchen cabinets to give them a fresh look. You can paint your nightstand to add a pop of unique color to your bedroom. You can even paint your bathroom a new color and redesign it! A fresh coat of paint can transform a home. Painting always seems like a more daunting project than it truly is, so pick something in your home and get painting—don’t let your preconceived notions intimidate you. The beauty of painting as a fun DIY project to do at home is that, if you don’t love the color, you can just paint over it!
Being stuck at home is hard, y’all. But we can all get through this with DIY crafting, some good books, and plenty of video calls with friends and family.

Paint something is a great one. My whole house could probably use a refresh but especially the hallway! I’d also like to take down the wallpaper in our bathroom and paint it.
