What You Need to Make these Dog Cupcakes
But let’s get back to these easy doggy cupcakes and what you need to make them. This is such a simple cupcake, but it’s totally no-fail. And you don’t even need eggs.
- 2 1/2 cup flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tspn baking soda
- 1/2 tspn salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tspn vanilla
- 1/3 cup butter (melted)
- 1 cup water
- 1 can of your favorite vanilla frosting
- 2 cups marshmallow fondant or white modeling chocolate
- 24 small candy eyeballs
- 5-10 drops dark blue food coloring
- 10-12 drops dark brown food coloring
- Black Gel Writing Icing
- Blue sanding sugar
How to Make these Puppy Cupcakes
Step 1
To make the cupcakes, preheat oven to 350-degrees and combine dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl.
Step 2
Combine wet ingredients (including butter) in a second medium sized bowl.
Step 3
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients in ⅓ increments, mixing thoroughly between each increment then spoon into lined cupcake pan.
Step 4
Bake for 30-minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool cupcakes completely before decorating.
Step 5
With your largest decorating tip, press into the top of the cupcake off-center, creating a well. Save hole tops.
Step 6
Place 1 tablespoon of blue sanding sugar sprinkles inside the well in the cupcake. Replace hole top on each cupcake.
Step 7
Mix blue food coloring into your vanilla frosting, stirring until the color is consistent.
Step 8
Place large hole tip in piping bag and fill with frosting. Frost each cupcake in a single layer swirl, turning the piping bag as you pipe.
Step 9
Break off one quarter of the marshmallow fondant. Set aside.
With 10-15 drops of brown GEL food coloring, work that into the larger portion of marshmallow fondant. This needs to be brown, so if you need more food coloring, add more. If the fondant feels too wet, put it in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Step 10
Roll out brown fondant on parchment paper to about 1/8-1/4 inch thick and, with round cookie cutter cut out 12 circles. Place one circle of brown fondant on top of each cupcake.
Step 11
With extra brown fondant, make two ears for each cupcake. I did 1/2 long ears and 1/2 short spiked ears. Place those ears on each brown fondant circle.
Step 12
With white fondant, make an oblong patch and place it over 1/2 of each circle.
Step 13
Add two candy eyeballs on top of each fondant circle, one on top of a patch.
Step 14
Add a little tiny thin cylinder above each eyeball as an eyelid.
Step 15
With the black gel writing icing, draw a nose and mouth on each cupcake.
Step 16
Enjoy!
