I have never had a green thumb and don’t now but hey I’m getting there !! So far I’m doing great… am I still killing a few ?? Oh yes ! Thank goodness for the 1 year warranty at home depot. I’m more than likely the only living person to actually use this warranty. This is not a how to advice post it’s a learn and fail with me report.
Succulants… they are all the rage right now! Not that I care what’s all the rage normally, but I am in love with these neat looking weird plants, I’m so intrigued by these they are covering my patio and every room in our house. (Pictures at the end). We just recently moved to a new home that has an outdoor area to die for. So I had to come up with something amazing and that would show some of my personality. I have all kinds and so far my favorite is the string of pearls what most people call senecio rowleyanus. It’s the most bubbly plant ever. No matter who sees it always makes a comment. I have only killed 2 of my succulents since our love affair. What I call baby toes and fairy house (pictures at end of what I murdered). The cause of death is what I believe to be cold feet. Who likes cold feet ?? No one not kids not brides etc… This is what one expert gardener explained to be when you barely water like a few drops and the plant does not fully get wet. I’m so guilty of this.
So far the following has worked for me.
1. Outdoor Succulants let the rain do it’s thing and leave them alone.
2. Indoor succulents water 1 time a month.
3. Regular potting soil mixed with sand does wonders to help with the drainage issue that come with succulents. & add rocks to the bottom.
As far as the ones I killed I have their sister plants on order as I type so when they arrive I will be reporting on what I did differently to keep them alive. Look on pintrest at all the ideas people have came up with the most eclectic idea I saw is a small distressed dresser filled with succulents and placed on the patio. Of course if I took action on that idea it would officially look like pure white trash that sometimes shows up in my mind… so until then I will continue to sprinkle every free space with my succulants. Please look at all my pictures and give me thoughts and opinions on what has / has not worked for yall. At least give me some ammunition so when people ask why mine look amazing I can fill them with knowledge !
