Hey y’all who all has kids in Elementary school ? Well I do and I have truly enjoyed it so far. I have heard so many people struggling with sight works with the kids and I hate that ! I know every child is different and learn way different than others. But i think cause I make it fun it helps me and my daughter.

1. I took very cute scrapbooking cards and wrote the words each week kn those so far and put them in a cute metal box. It’s easy and cute and my girl likes all the prints.

2. I bought some sticker letters and a poster board and let her find the words out of the letter s and then place on poster board what kid boy or girl don’t like stickers. Especially big ones !

image

When it’s pretty weather out side we do them out there so we are not so cooped up !!

Poster and sticker fun !!

So far it has worked wonders for us !! She knows each weeks sight words before the new set comes out. And of course we go over all the old ones each week to refresh as well.

Do y’all do sight words at your child school ?

Do you struggle getting your child to “want to do it” ?

What fun ways have y’all tried if any?

Below you will find more ideas I have found on Pinterest that we will be doing in the weeks to come !!

image

Tons of kids these days have a phone they use on WiFi or a tablet and love using it cause they feel like a big girl/boy. These apps are perfect for that!

image

This is perfect when I saw this I knew it would be perfect I literally bought Nerf guns on Friday and they love using them in the house hahah !!

imageWord version on candy land perfect in our house cause we play candy land about 30 times a day !!

image

These are really cool and feel neat they have these at school but I’m going to may a few for home in different colors !

Thanks so much for coming by I love it !!!

I’m not sure if my first comment went through, but I really love this idea. I think my son would enjoy doing this outdoors and helping to make the cards too.

I love your idea of using cute cards to teach sight words. I homeschool my kids who are 7 and 3. This school year I just started teaching my 3 year old how to read. We have been using hooked on phonics. She knows her letter sounds so just started learning short a words. We practice with refrigerator magnets a lo, but I want to try some of these ideas too.

I love your ideas. When my son was in kindergarten I added colorful backgrounds to his sight words. That increased his engagement level and the process was much easier for him. We should have tried it outdoors though. He would have loved that!

I don’t have children yet, but I am simply amazed that there is now an app for sight words! Times have truly changed and evolved. By the way, I love the cards you made. I’m a die hard gold and polka dots fan.

I pray my someday child is not dyslexic like me. My mom tried things like this with me—that’s how SHE knew before the teachers that I had a problem.
And that is why it is so important for parents to be their child’s first educator, because you truly care and you will know when your child is struggling.

But what a fun and painless way to develop reading readiness without your child really knowing this is “school!”

Those are great ideas and cute cards. We did do sight words, with all 4 kids, still do actually. They are pretty good about it. We just do flash cards. What I do appreciate is the website our school uses to prep for spelling tests, there are fun games on there and since it’s on the computer my kids enjoy it!

Great idea! I love that you make it fun by using something other than plain index cards! As someone who struggled through grade school due to learning disabilities, when my mom or teachers made learning fun it really helps. I think this is a wonderful idea!

That’s awesome that you’re putting in the extra time to work with your daughter on sight words. Early literacy is SO IMPORTANT. And believe it or not, it’s a big deciding factor in the future success of a child.

One fun thing to do is get small boxes (shoe boxes work well), decorate them with sight words –for example, “red”– and have the child fill the box with red knick knacks from around the house or outside. It’s a good, tactile way for them to ingest the words 🙂

I don’t have any kids (yet– just a few months!) but when I worked in after school childcare, our younger kids had sight word notecards and I worked with them on learning them every day. The notecards definitely help, and I always just went back over the words they struggled with!
