One of my favorite Disney movies as a child was Alice in Wonderland. And since cupcakes are one of my favorite treats now, I decided to combine the two in these Alice in Wonderland Cupcakes.
With all of the fun, whimsical characters and scenes in the story, there were a lot of possibilities when it came to creating Alice in Wonderland cupcakes.
Ultimately, I decided to focus on the beginning of the story, just before we head into the fantastical Wonderland. The blue frosting is inspired by Alice’s dress.
The key is inspired by the key she finds when she falls down the rabbit hole. The words “Eat Me” on the cupcakes should make us all feel like Alice who reads the same message on the cake she finds in the rabbit hole.
How to Make Alice in Wonderland Cupcakes
The magic of these cupcakes is in the decoration. The cupcakes themselves are just standard vanilla cupcakes. Follow your favorite recipe or use a boxed cake mix, if you prefer.
Ingredients
- 6 Prepared Cupcakes (White liners)
- ½ Cup Wilton’s Black Chocolate Discs
- 1 Can Vanilla Frosting
- Blue Food Coloring
- 3-4 Plastic Gold Keys
Step 1: Make Frosting
Place the frosting in a bowl and add several drops of food coloring to it.
Stir to combine, until the frosting is the right shade of blue (you get to decide what the “right” shade is).
Step 2: Frost Cupcakes
Place the frosting in a piping bag, attach the star tip, and carefully frost each cupcake starting in the center of each cupcake and slowly circling out towards the edge.
Step 3: Make Phrases
Next, melt the black candy discs in a small bowl in the microwave and add to a small plastic bag.
Cut off a small piece from the corner of the bag and carefully write the words “Eat Me” in frosting onto parchment paper.
Wait for candy melts to cool and harden before continuing.
Step 4: Decorate Cupcakes
Once the candy words are fully cooled, place them on half the cupcakes. On the remaining cupcakes, carefully place a gold plastic key.
Your Alice in Wonderland cupcakes are ready to serve!
