If you’re just looking for a fun margarita to have some fun-times with, this Cotton Candy Margarita is going to take that fun to the limit! It’s sweet, silly, and all sorts of yummy.
I think what inspired this frozen margarita with cotton candy was my kiddo’s recent obsession with cotton candy.
Unfortunately, though, she never finishes the container of cotton candy–which is slightly frustrating, because I love cotton candy, but a girl can only eat so much before it’s not as fun anymore.
I mean, we’ve tried to get clever and use it anyway we can. That’s how we ended up with Cotton Candy S’mores.
It was only a matter of time before those leftovers made their way into my favorite cocktail. And that is how this cotton candy margarita came to be.
What You Need to Make this Margarita with Cotton Candy
No surprises here, this is a really easy recipe, with pretty simple ingredients. You can even leave out the food coloring and food flavoring oil if you want–I just had them on hand and decided to use them–but they’re definitely optional.
- 1 shot Tequila
- 1/2 shot Triple Sec
- 3 cups cotton candy
- 2-3 drops blue food coloring
- 2-3 drops cotton candy food flavoring oil
- 2 cups ice
How to Make a Cotton Candy Margarita
Step 1
Place ⅔ of the cotton candy, food coloring and flavoring oil over ice. Save 1/3–its for fun-times of topping the margarita later!
Step 2
Add triple sec and tequila. I personally have no preference for alcohol brands. I mean, I can taste the difference between different wines, but when you put lime and ice in with some salt and tequila–I really don’t know that I can taste the different tequila flavors.
Step 3
Blend. Now, this sounds simple enough, but you want to blend really well. I used my trusty immersion blender. Cheap little workhorse makes perfectly crushed ice for margaritas every time.
Step 4
Pour blended mixture into glass. I used a big spoon–but I still managed to make a big mess.
Step 5
With the remaining ⅓ of the cotton candy, top the margarita with little bits of cotton candy, wrap cotton candy around cake pop sticks and put in margaritas, or serve cotton candy on the side. Keep in mind that the cotton candy melts REEEEEEALLY fast when it’s directly touching the margarita, so don’t do this until you’re ready to serve.
