Ways to Celebrate Your Anniversary During Quarantine

Due to the recent spread of COVID-19, it seems like life has been completely turned upside down. Stores are closed, vacations canceled, and everyone seems to be stuck indoors with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Yet life goes on, and important holidays and moments persist. For our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband and I had planned a lovely, romantic getaway to Napa Valley. I was pretty bummed that our vacation had to be canceled, but my knight in shining armor came through and planned a lovely anniversary celebration that still managed to blow me away. In a time when things look particularly dark and uncertain, I’ve decided the best thing to do is share the love. Drawing inspiration from our own celebration, here are three great ways to celebrate your anniversary during quarantine.

Plan a romantic dinner

I don’t know about y’all, but food is absolutely the way to my husband’s heart (and mine too, if I’m being honest!). Therefore, if you’re anything like us, the best way to celebrate your anniversary during quarantine is with a grand, romantic dinner date. Though you may not be able to dine out at your favorite restaurant, you can still host a lovely dinner from the comfort of your own home. Don’t be afraid to pull out all the stops when planning your feast. This is a special occasion, after all! Go big with the meal and consider treating yourself to a multicourse menu. If you’d rather spend less time in the kitchen and more time in each other’s company, consider supporting a local small business and order out for your meal instead. Don’t forget to decorate the space and get dressed up too. You may only be traveling from one room of your house to another, but you can still get dressed up in your best date night ensemble. Pulling out all the stops and dressing up for one another will make the night feel like a special occasion, rather than just another day spent in your house.

Revisit your wedding day

If you’re in the mood for a more sentimental anniversary, pull out memorabilia from your wedding and relive your special day together. Look through pictures of your wedding day and share your favorite moments with one another. Reread your wedding vows or consider making new vows that more accurately reflect your life and love after several years of marriage. If you’ve saved any wine or frozen a slice of cake from your wedding day, this is the perfect time to give it a taste. For a truly special moment, try to recreate your first dance as well.

Plan an indoor outing

This may seem a bit backward, but bear with me! You may not be able to venture outdoors for a movie date or a romantic stroll around your favorite museum, but you can very easily recreate those outings from the comfort of your own home. Many museums are offering free virtual tours, and streaming services are debuting new titles every day. Try to recreate the experience of visiting these venues as closely as possible. Provide concession candy and a ticket for a movie date or provide your partner with a glass of wine to accompany your virtual art museum tour.
