WHAT IS BREAD PUDDING?
Not everyone is familiar with bread pudding. It is a popular dish in the south and once you try it you will probably be hooked.
Bread pudding is a bread-based dessert that is usually made with eggs, milk or cream, spices and sometimes fruit. There is actually no pudding involved, LOL. The reason it has pudding in the name is that the dessert is soft and kind of soggy in a good way. It must have reminded someone of pudding way back when it was invented.
This is a dish that works great with stale or old bread. Many years ago this was actually a dish that was common among poor families because it did use stale bread.
These days bread pudding is popular with all classes of people and there are unlimited variations on the basic recipe.
And, because we’re making this into crock pot bread pudding instead of in the oven, home cooks everywhere will breathe a sigh of relief!

HOW TO MAKE SLOW COOKER BREAD PUDDING
This recipe is very easy and you will have it in the slow cooker in no time at all. The hard part is waiting for it to be done so you can eat it!
STEP ONE: COMBINE INGREDIENTS
Take a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the milk eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt.
Then add in dates and stir until combined.
STEP TWO: BREAD
Take the brioche bread and cut it up into 1 inch cubes.
Add the bread cubes to the bowl and stir it in so that the bread gets well coated in the liquid milk mixture.
STEP THREE: ADD TO SLOW COOKER
Now you are going to pour the bread mixture into an oven-safe baking dish that is the right size to fit into your slow cooker. Don’t put the dish into the slow cooker yet, just put the mixture in the dish.
Add a 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the slow cooker.
Place a trivet or Mason jar lids into the bottom of the slow cooker.
Set the casserole dish on top of the trivet or lids.
STEP FOUR: COOK
Place cover and cook on high for 2 hours.
When the slow cooker bread pudding is done cooking you can serve it warm, room temperature or cold.
Or, if you want, for a little special treat, you can make a caramel sauce by melting some caramel candies in the microwave, drizzle that (or even some vanilla sauce), then add a little whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. So good.
