I’m going to be honest, of all the frozen margaritas I’ve ever made, this Orange Creamsicle Margarita is absolutely my favorite. It’s smooth, creamy and just like an Orange Julius!
My whole family loves orange creamsicle pops–but I wanted to turn them on their head and make a “mommy drink” that was just for me.
I mean, I’m tired of hoarding my stash of ice pops, seriously. LOL!
But when I pulled together this Orange Creamsicle Margarita, well, all bets were off.
It’s amazingly creamy and so smooth. I can’t wait for an excuse to make another round!
What You Need to Make this Frozen Orange Creamsicle Margarita
Surprisingly, this is a simple recipe. You don’t have to do anything weird. Just pulled out ingredients I already had.
I used:
- 1 shot Tequila
- 1/2 shot Triple Sec
- ½ cup coconut cream (canned) — you can use dairy cream if you want, I just had a can of this laying around to use
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 medium orange
- 2 cups ice
- Sugar for rimming
How to Make this Orange Creamsicle Margarita
Step 1
Peel orange and place over ice. I just used a regular orange. I suppose you could use a 1/2 cup of orange juice if you wanted, but I think having the pulp of the orange add to the creamy texture.
Step 2
Combine sugar and coconut cream in a small bowl. You want to make sure that the sugar is completely dissolved or it will be gritty in the final drink and no bueno.
Step 3
Add coconut cream, triple sec and tequila. I personally have no preference for alcohol brands. I mean, I can taste the difference between different wines, but when you put lime and ice in with some salt and tequila–I really don’t know that I can taste the different tequila flavors.
Step 4
Blend. Now, this sounds simple enough, but you want to blend really well. I used my trusty immersion blender. Cheap little workhorse makes perfectly crushed ice for margaritas every time.
Step 5
Rim glass with margarita juice. You can use water, but why when you have a perfectly good bowl of margarita just sitting right there?!
Step 6
Dip rim of glass in sugar. Because there’s not a ton of sugar in the margarita itself, this little hint of sweet with every sip is a must.
Step 7
Pour blended mixture into glass. No tricks here, just get ready.
Step 8
Kick your feet back and enjoy!
